Joining TCS or Cognizant in Siruseri? Your first-month PG guide
Every year, many people join the TCS and Cognizant campuses in SIPCOT IT Park, Siruseri, often moving to Chennai for the first time. The first month is easier when where you live is sorted early. Here is a simple plan.
Before you arrive
- Shortlist PGs near the campus. Egattur, Navalur, Padur and Kelambakkam are the closest areas to SIPCOT. Living nearby saves you hours every week on OMR traffic.
- Call ahead. Ask about open beds, rent, deposit and what is included, so you are not deciding on the spot with luggage in hand.
- Plan a short visit. If you can, see the PG the day before you join.
Budget for the first month
Your first salary may arrive a few weeks after you start, so plan for:
- The first month's rent and the deposit
- Travel to Chennai and to the PG
- Small things: a bucket, toiletries, a lock, a power strip
A PG with meals and Wi-Fi included makes the first month far more predictable than renting a flat.
Choosing a room
If you will be in training with long days, a quieter double sharing room can help. If you are saving money, triple or four sharing works well, and you meet people quickly. Decide between AC and non-AC early; AC rooms are popular in summer.
