PG near SIPCOT, Siruseri: what to check before you move in
SIPCOT IT Park in Siruseri is one of the busiest workplaces on Chennai's Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR). TCS, Cognizant and many other companies have campuses here, and every month new joiners start looking for a PG nearby. If that is you, this guide covers what actually matters when you compare options.
Start with the commute
The biggest daily saving is time. A PG close to SIPCOT means you are not spending an hour each way on OMR traffic. Egattur, Navalur, Padur and Kelambakkam are the nearest residential pockets. SPT PG for Gents is in Egattur, right next to the IT park, so the trip to the Siruseri campuses is short.
Ask each PG:
- How do residents usually get to work, and is there cab or drop support when you need it?
- Is the road to the building well lit for late shifts?
- Are shops, pharmacies and restaurants within walking distance?
Food you can live with every day
Most IT professionals eat at least two meals a day at their PG, so food quality decides whether you stay. Ask whether three meals are included, what a typical week's menu looks like and whether the food is home-style. At SPT, three meals a day are part of the stay; residents describe it in their Google reviews as "homely food" and "tasty and hygienic food".
The room itself
Visit the actual room you would get, not a show room. Check:
- Sharing type. A single or double sharing room costs more but gives you quiet for calls; triple or four sharing keeps rent low.
- AC or non-AC. Chennai summers are long. Many PGs, including SPT, offer both, at different rents.
- Storage. A wardrobe of your own and space for a suitcase.
- Bathroom. Attached or shared, and whether there is hot water. SPT rooms have hot water from geysers.
You can compare sharing types, AC and non-AC rents and open beds on our rooms and rent page.
Safety and everyday essentials
Look for 24/7 CCTV, reliable water, Wi-Fi that holds up for video calls, a washing machine and parking if you ride. These are small things until they are missing. SPT lists all of them on its poster: AC and non-AC rooms, free Wi-Fi, three meals, 24/7 CCTV, washing machine, parking, fridge, water, geyser and LED TV.
Questions to ask on your visit
- What exactly is included in the rent, and what costs extra?
- How much is the deposit, and how is it returned?
- How quickly are maintenance problems fixed?
- How often are rooms cleaned?
- What are the house rules for guests and timings?
A good PG answers these clearly. One SPT resident wrote that "if any issue arises, it will be resolved within one day", which is the kind of answer you want to hear.
