AC or non-AC PG in Siruseri: which should you choose?
Chennai is warm for most of the year, so one of the first choices you make when picking a PG near Siruseri is whether to pay for an AC room. Here is how to decide, with real numbers.
The rent difference at SPT
At SPT PG for Gents, every sharing type comes as AC or non-AC. At the time of writing (October 2026), the rents per bed per month are:
- Double sharing: ₹11,000 non-AC, ₹12,000 AC
- Triple sharing: ₹8,500 non-AC, ₹9,500 AC
- Four sharing: ₹7,500 non-AC, ₹8,500 AC
So AC adds ₹1,000 a month, or ₹12,000 a year, whichever sharing type you pick. Current figures are always on the rooms and rent page; use the Non-AC / AC switch to compare.
AC makes sense if you
- Work night shifts and need to sleep during the hottest part of the day.
- Move in before or during summer, when nights stay warm.
- Sleep lightly and find heat keeps you awake.
- Work from your room some days and need to stay comfortable on calls.
Non-AC makes sense if you
- Want the lowest rent. A non-AC four sharing bed is the most affordable option.
- Are out most of the day and back mainly to sleep.
- Sleep well with a fan. Non-AC rooms have ceiling fans.
Questions to ask before choosing
- Is electricity for the AC included in the rent, or charged separately?
- Are there set hours when the AC runs?
- How will roommates agree on the temperature?
- Can I move from non-AC to AC later if a bed opens up?
Ask these on your visit, and get the answers before you pay a deposit.
Sharing an AC room
In a shared AC room, agree on a temperature on day one. A setting everyone can sleep at saves arguments, and electricity too.
